How to Add "LGBTQ+ Friendly" to Your Google Business Profile

Whether you are a wedding venue, florist, photographer or another wedding business, if you claim to run an inclusive wedding business, or you work for one, it's important to make sure that your Google Business Profile says clearly that your business is "LGBTQ+ friendly".

By adding this label to your business profile, it quickly sends a message to customers who are browsing you online that they can feel safe and comfortable coming to your business. In this article, we'll show you how to add "LGBTQ+ Friendly" and "Transgender safespace" as attributes on your google business profile.

Why is it important to be an LGBTQ+ friendly business?

90% of LGBTQ+ couples expect to experience discrimination while planning their wedding, so it's particularly important for wedding businesses to proactively take these steps to communicate their inclusiveness. Wedding planning can be a stressful time, and the last thing you want is for a couple to feel like they have to go out of their way to find vendors who are accepting of their relationship.

How do I add LGBTQ+ friendly to my Google Business Profile?

Here are the steps:

1. Go to google.com

2. On the top-right corner, click the icon with 9 dots

3. Click "Business Profile" from the dropdown apps

4. Click "Info" on the left-hand side menu

5. Scroll down to "attributes"

6. Select "LGBTQ+ friendly" and "Transgender safespace"

7. Click "apply"

That's it! Take a look below at what your profile will look like when people view you on Google.

Isn't this kind of thing just being tokenistic?

Taking a step like this could be viewed as tokenistic if it's not coupled with real, tangible inclusive practices. Importantly, it's a way to use your platform and business profile to show your customers that you are an inclusive business. Google Business Profiles are one of the first places that potential customers will go to learn more about your business, so it's important to make sure that the information on your profile reflects your company values.
